Milkshake vs protein shake

Recommended Posts

Ok, I have another question. I am not banded yet, but I have friends who are. One can't hardly eat and resorts to mashed potatoes, chips and milkshakes. What I want to know, is if I get like that, can I at least resort to Protein Shakes so I am getting the Protein in? I don't want all those calories and carbs.

Well sure, you could have Protein Shakes in that circumstance. But if she's too tight, that's really easily remedied by removing a small amount of Fluid. So there's really no good reason for you to ever be in the situation she's in- unless she has some more serious health problem going on.

What she's choosing are called "slider foods" because they "slide" down so easily, don't get stuck, and you can eat a ton of them. If I were you I'd talk to her and get some more info on why she can't eat anything else.

She's to tight ! She should be drinking Protein Shakes anyway...

Now your getting a chance to see what being to tight is. Remember that ! If it happens to you.

You can go in and get some Fluid taken out of the band.

Once the swelling has gone down, your Dr. can add a little more back.

Thank you. It just annoyed me, but since I am not banded yet, I didn't feel like I could really say. I was just thinking, nutritionly it would be better if she had Protein Shakes instead of the carb and calorie laden milkshake. I am trying to educate myself as much as possible for when it is my turn. Thank you so much for the feedback.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
