How much do you worry about the complications?

Recommended Posts

I'm planning to get a Tummy Tuck and breast implants. I want this so badly and I know people do this every day with no problems, but I have one person that I know that's making me feel horrible.

She says people die from plastic surgery and since I'm a mom and have little ones at home I shouldn't be willing to take that risk. Part of me knows she is right, people can die from plastic surgery but then again, the risk is low.

Do you worry about this? How do you put it in perspective?

I wouldn't worry about it. If it's what you want then you should do it. Yes, you want to be there to raise your children but your kids also deserve a happy, healthy mom. Life is full of risks. You could get hit by a bus or be the victim of a drive by. That doesn't mean you're going to barricade yourself in the house. Besides, if you did that, you could die of a carbon monoxide leak. Live your life to the fullest. There are NO guarantees!

There is a risk for Lap-Band too...but, you took the risks and have become a success! Do it for you! You will be a happier wife and mom.

i worry about it :( i got banded before i had my baby, she's almost 2 now. so i'm starting to lose the weight again...and i look at my flabby arms and heck you can spot a former fat girl a mile a way (a size 5 with saggy/jiggly triceps)

i feel that i'm being selfish and i need to think about her. i'm sure theres other ways we can die, but it just truly bothers me, and i'm still not sure what i'm going to do when the time comes to decide, i love her so much.

i probably need some antidepressants now just after writing 4 lines, geeze.

good luck with your decision :)

I worried incessantly about any thing that could go bad. But someone said to me the great words 'Eyes on the prize' And I repeated that to myself the whole way - And the prize is fantastic!

I have Heard the same from people, but I tell them that I could get struck by lightning or run over by a run away bus too I don't live terrified of "what if's". If I were I prob wouldn't have been banded. So yes- anything CAN happen- but IMO the end result (a happier me) is worth it

I take a heavy risk riding a major highway,,, get a surgeon with good credentials, all those societies, etc.. be in the best shape possible and think positive!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
