Hi,

5 days POST- OP. Large covers and gauze came off on Monday and there were "surgi strips" underneath..... they all were well attached but the one covering the port was loose. I believe this is because that one had the most blood on it at the time of being covered. It stayed on one more day and fell off last night. Dr. said no problem with that and if it bothers me to just put on a band-aid.

My QUESTION is ............what did yours look like? Was there still a small area that is open? :(I do not want it to get infected! Did you use anything on it such as neosporin?

Thanks in advance for your replies!

He said just leave it alone ! They will all fall of at different times. So,, some areas look lose or open, They will close.

What ever I still had left on, he took of.

I to was worried, but he said your fine !, and it was...

I wouldn't worry unless there is redness, pain to touch, warmth or swelling. (I'm an RN). Don't put ANYTHING on it without your doctor's OK. It will close by itself. If your DR. prescribed oral antibiotics be sure you take all of them.

I'm 2 weeks post-op and had a similar thing happen. They are healing well.

I'm 2 weeks post op, and I am still a little itchy there too... my steri strips all fell off within a few days of getting them. I had staples first though; don't worry too much!

My doctor told me if they fell off to clean the incisiions with neosporin and reapply another bandage. So far they are peeling but I keep putting surgical tape over them.

I'm 4 weeks + 1 day post op and just had my first fill today. As far as the steri strips, they're supposed to fall off. My nurse had me keep putting them on for a month though, she said it will make the scar look "prettier" since the skin won't stretch as much if you keep it pulled together. I had 2 areas on each end that were still open like little circles. I think it's just due to the way the skin stretches and pulls back together. My scar isn't looking too bad so far though!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
