What hospital does Dr. Spival use?

Recommended Posts

Can any of Dr. Spivak's patients tell me which hospital they used and give me their opinion of the hospital used and how long they stayed? I'm narrowing down my choices. Just talked to my insurance (United) and they said they will cover the procedure. :clap2: I'm very excited and want to get this scheduled asap. Also, can anyone let me know how long you had to wait to have the lapband procedure done with Dr. Spival.

I used Dr. Spivak at the Physican's Surgery Center on Main St. - great group of drs. and support staff there. I was banded just 10 days ago.

I don't think we were there for more than 4 hours start to finish... I was at home and in bed by 1:00! I stayed in bed for the rest of the evening.

I had my surgery done at the Physicians SurgiCenter on Main St. in Houston and it was a great experience. No complaints at all. And they have their fill appointments there on Thursdays now. The first time I went for a fill it was really packed and now they have it down to a new routine and it was alot smoother. Not that it wasn't before but not as crowded. And no pain at all.

As far as my length of stay there...I was home by 3:30pm and passed out! Afterward the surgery and waking up in recovery they do make you stay until you can drink a bottle of Water SLOWLY to make sure you can keep it down and then you leave! Just make sure you take a pillow to lay across your stomach for the bumpy ride home...You know how Houston roads can be! It helps.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
