Overcoming temptations

Recommended Posts

I am having a few problems with my pre op diet, I am supposed to drink 3-4 shakes a day. That is fine they fill me up and taste great! But I had one bite of food yesterday spit it out... and this morning I took one bite and swallowed should I feel guilty. It is the temptation of the food being there, not that I really want or need it. I am so scared that I am going to be a lapband failure due to my lack of will power. I am fine through meals with my family, it is cooking " tasting to see if it is done or needs more of something" It is such a bad habit of mine. I did notice as long as I turn my nose off, there is no desire to eat... I just keep telling myself " nothing tastes as good as thin feels" I did this with every scoop of cookie dough on the pan, in order no to cheat..... Will I be saying this to myself for the rest of my life? Does anyone have any ideas... Thanks

Good advice above. I live alone so it's not so bad but I think I still need to clear out almost everything from my freezer and cupboards so there is simply nothing there. I don't think I could bake Cookies (the smell would also get to me).

My family made a deal not to order pizza while I was on my pre op liquid diet. Its difficult enough, even with out the food right in front of you. Now that I can eat real food, them having pizza doesn't bother me.

Pre-op is the hardest part. Being on liquids is brutal. It will totally change after you are banded. Hang in there...it really does get better! But, I agree take out the temtations!

I knew i would probably have a difficult time with my pre- op diet if I had to be the one responsible for all the family cooking.(I'm the taste tester as well). So I had my two teenage daughters do a month worth of meals at Dream Dinners. Now we have approximately 24 dinners for our family of 5 that I don't have to worry about while I'm in the hardest part of the pre and post op diets. And my girls made a girls day of it and had a great time. We put them in the freezer, take one out each morning and then each of the kids is responsible for the side dishes that accompany our premade meal on a schedule. I don't plan on stepping foot in the kitchen for any extended period of time for a 3 week period! Haha.;)

Thanks everyone I appreciate the support and input! Thank you. Day two was better and cooking things for the kids that are not as tempting. Tonight the kids had waffles , I didn't even want to taste the batter. They can be my taste testers, I am so looking forward to the weight loss process of the pre op diet and the continuation with the Lap Band as a tool for a healthier life. smile.gifsmile.gif

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
