When you say sometimes you can eat certain foods and sometimes you can't... How do you know you can't? Is it a stuck feeling? And sliming feeling? Or is it like you feel like you may get stuck if you keep eating it? I'm asking because I'm not banded yet (will be in 9 days!!) and I'm very nervous about trying certain foods once that day comes... Like white chicken, fruit, some veggies, bread etc... I know it's probably bound to happen eventually... But I just have this fear of getting stuck.

Anyway, I guess my question is, what does it feel like when you know you shouldn't continue eating something? Thanks!

 As I understand it from research for DH diabetes, whole grain foods work our digestive systems really well. I don't have trouble with any all the time. Seldom do I bother with it, but on the times I have it's worked. Usually I do cinimion bread toasted, pick at cheese biscuts and can handle a bun from the grill. There are many times that it doesn't work. But I am like that with many foods. Today I couldn't eat a fruit coctail.

Youll know you cant when it causes you pain, excessive salivation or vomiting! You figure it out pretty quickly. I can eat bread but it is a food more likely to get stuck and over time you just dont fancy it so much anymore. I had my band unfilled for six months and really really enjoyed toast for breakie again but oh boy once youbput butter and jam on it its a fair whack of your daily calories. Fill back up tp my normal level and suddenlybi just dont want it anymore. So just try it cautiously and if it doesnt work for you take heart thatvyou wont really miss it.

I was, told,no bread, Pasta or rice for first 6 mos. It does not bother me not to have pasta or rice. Bread I am not sure, I am mentally ready to have it, I think I will get a taste and then keep wanting more. So for now just keeping away from it.

Susan "Stop the insanity" Powter (who always irritated the p!ss out of me) used to say EAT DOUGH, LOOK LIKE DOUGH! Whether I can eat bread or not, I don't!

As long as it is toasted, I don't have a problem with bread.....I love sourdough, and rye bread...yum,yum....Also sourdough muffins!

Anything that resembles bread gives me trouble. I don't eat any type of bread, rolls, Buns, muffins, tortillas, Bagels, donuts, pizza crust ......... I also have trouble with Pasta and rice.

If I have a bread craving I eat a few reduced fat wheat thins. They don't bother me, but I only eat about 6-8.

I don't bother with calorie counting.

Sorry but there is no way to tell what is going to work when. chicken is seldom a problem, in fact meats in general. There are just days when I feel different, I know when I wake up if Breakfast has to be liquid or not. I can't feel the tightness but I know it's there. I can get the desire for something like tuna salad, get it made, sit down and just looking at it I know I can't eat it. Maybe it's in my mind, but I have tried to ignore it, start to eat and I feel my throat close off and I can't even start to chew it. I have had something for lunch, try the leftovers for dinner and it won't go down. There is a feeling you get to know quickly.I cant even say that I get stuck because the food doesn't get far enough in to be stuck.

When I have had "stuck" issues, it has been most often, that I didn't listen to my body. Sometimes I feel myself get full, but just a little is left so I try to eat it. Or, I am eating to fast get air in and feel the need to burp, If I stop eating no matter how much I have had I am usually OK.

It is different for everyone and different at different fill levels. Just learn to listen to what your body is saying and you will be fine.B)

You said a mouthful ! I know how to tell also, and I listen to my body. There is no sense in trying to fight this , because you will not win.

I'm do for a slight fill today, and it already started out as one of those days.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
