dustbuster_00 0 Posted June 20, 2011 I started my Pre-Op diet on June 11th my surgery is scheduled for June 24th 2011. The Pre-Op Diet my Surgeon recommends is the low carb diet similar to Atkins for 1-2 weeks. My Surgeon said that this diet will shrink the liver, because the body will burn up all of the fat that is stored in the liver when you don't give it carbs to burn first. My diet consists of something like. eggs and bacon for Breakfast, pork chop for lunch, hamburger patty for dinner. It is not a hard diet to follow. I know some patient's have had to go on a liquid diet Pre-OP. What Pre-Op diet did you have to do?
Papillon Princess 13 Posted June 20, 2011 I had 2 Protein Shakes a day and one small high Protein meal. (4 oz of lean meat) It was alright after day 4, my body was finally getting used to it and I wasn't having such horrid cravings or hunger pains.
xxBlasianxx 0 Posted June 20, 2011 2 week liquid diet. 2 Protein shakes a day or a 3rd if needed. At least 60 grams of Protein a day. I can eat things like sugar free Jello, sf popsicles and sf drinks/ sf tang/ sf crystal light etc. I can have light juice but it can't be more than 8oz and no more than 6grs of sugar per serving. Clear broths and liquids. Tomato juice is okay. It sucks... big time.

~*Stephanie*~ 0 Posted June 21, 2011 I'm on the same diet. Today is my fourth day and I'm starving I am still doing my 6 months of meeting with a dietician (3 more to go!)... but I am required to do FOUR weeks of the liquid diet Pre-Op! So any advice from either of you would help a great deal!
UniversalDestiny 1 Posted June 21, 2011 I'm on Optifast Protein Shakes five times a day. It's not that bad, just watching others eat is the worst part but I have to remind myself that I'm doing this for me and to get healthy. 1 ~*Stephanie*~ reacted to this

Karon 1 Posted June 21, 2011 Hello: I begin a 3 week liquid diet tomorrow. My surgery is the 12th of July. I have 2 Protein shakes a day and 1 high Protein small meal. Can also have oatmeal, sf popsicles, applesauce, strawberries, salad, yogurt and Jello. I'm not looking forward to it, but I know that it is a means to an end and it will be worth it in the long haul. Wishing you the best with your diet and upcoming surgery. Ouch, my Doctor just gave me the chocolate ones today and I'm hooked on those. I hope I can tolerate them after surgery when I get to stage 2.

I had a chocolate one for Breakfast, chicken noodle Soup flavored for dinner, strawberry for evening snack and since I work nights I will be putting the chocolate in my coffee. I mix them with 8oz of fat free milk. 60 and 120 grams of Protein a day for me.

Allison0927 329 Posted June 21, 2011 I started my pre-op diet today (surgery July 5). It's 2 weeks - 3 Protein Shakes a day, 2 lien cuisines per day (or equivalent - smart ones etc.) and up to 2 cups vegetables per day. It's really not bad compared to what I'm seeing on here... Good luck to us all - would be nice to lose about 7-10 pounds going into the surgery so the pre-op diet will be good for that!
