I had my surgery almost 2 yrs ago and my last fill was back in Feb of 2010. Everything was fine until a few months ago. I noticed that I was vomiting alot and nauseous, and could hardly keep fluids down. Then about 2 weeks ago I noticed that it hurt to take deep breaths and I started coughing alot, especially at night. I have to sleep on 3 pillows to stay upright to help. I wake up in the middle of night with vomit in my throat and will proceed to get sick multiple times throught the night and day. I have a weird gurggling noise in my throat that is loud and other people can hear. Sometimes when I cough I cough up mucus. Could this be caused due to my band slipping?

I think instead of waiting for someone to answer your question....I would be calling my surgeon ASAP. It sounds like something may be wrong with your band. Please call your doctor soon...waiting over 2 weeks is too long!! Keep us posted

Those were the EXACT symptoms I experiences when my band slipped. The coughing at night like a 60 year old smoker was so bad... not to mention the throwing up. I had to have mine redone (and repaid for out of my pocket) and the second time around has been nothing like the first. My weight is not coming off and I cannot eat. I am super discouraged.

I would be discouraged too. I hope that if it is because of slippage that they can fix it and not have to redo. The coughing at night is not fun. I cough so much I can't breathe. I feel like I live in the bathroom and I have gotten to the point where I don't want to eat in public becasue I don't want to get sick. I hope that your situation gets better and the weight will start to come off again!

I was only recently banded and I wondered what would cause the band slippage? I am on week 3 and I have not been able to just eat puree foods. I have been eating, chewing really well, but I seem to be hungry all the time. I am not sure if it is realy hunger or I am just pre-occupied with the thoughts of eating.

What I have found out about the band slippage is the location of the band, front or back of the stomach, if they didn't suture up your stomach under the band, that can cause it to slip and excessive vomiting. I think mine may be caused by the excessive vomiting. I got really sick at Christmas from eating something my body can digest and ever since then I haven't been the same. It is just over the past few weeks that it has gotten really bad.

Your hunger may be due to your band not being filled yet. They usually put the band in un filled so your body can adjsut to it so during that time you have no restriction and you can eat like normal. Hopefully after your first fill you will notice a difference. I didn't lose that much weight the first couple of months, but once I got my band adjusted to my sweet spot the weight started coming off alot eaiser. Keep up the good work and good luck!

I had my upper Gi and found out that my band is laying flat instead of at an angle and that is what has been causing all the issues. It is caused my the band slipping or my stomach pouch got to big and pushed the band down over time. They took all the Fluid out of my band and I seem to be doing better. The surgeon is going to review my film to see if if did slip or was pushed down. If it slipped I will need surgery if it was pushed down I will have to wait 3 months get another upper gi and then if everything looks ok, they can start to fill it again.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
