Exercise advise please

Recommended Posts

I hate exercising.

I want to vomit during and get very weak after gym sessions, even low intensity. I signed up and canceled my gym membership at least 3 times... All pre-band.

I do walk fast-pace at least 1h a day at least 3 days a week.

I need input, advise, a kick in the a$$ from this forum.

Do I need to exercise?

Is walking enough?

And just in case - anyone in Shipsheadbay Brooklyn or Woodbridge NJ is looking for an exercise partner?

that can be a sign of dehydration. Are you hydrating well before, durring and after exercising.

You might be right ....I did had a membership to a gym with personal trainer, and tons of 'personal attention' I actually did not hate it as much. But end up gaining weight and quit after six months.

Will give it a thought - THANK YOU!

Another good idea! I was not big on drinking enough Water before band. So you are probably right!

I love riding my bike and swimming. I use my treadmill at my house when the weather is bad. I'm hoping to start raquetball again soon as I love to play. If you can find something you enjoy, exercise will be something to look forward to. Next week, my family is going to visit and we are going to rent kayaks at the lake. I've always wanted to do that.

I workout out with a small group of women. It's motivational not a lot of pressure and fun. Try a bootcamp or group workout. Also try eating something light like an orange or tomatoe. My nutritionist recommend I eat one of those 30 mins before my workout to give me energy.

Find an exercise that you enjoy. I love dancing and am fortunate that my husband also loves dancing. Even better is that the majority of the people in our group prefer not to drink alcohol when they are dancing because they say they can't dance as well when drinking. This means that my Water is perfectly normal!

I get my band on August 12th and exercise is the one thing I'm dreading. I'm right there with you. I HATE exercising. I also feel like my level of exercise is SO far behind what everyone is. I get all huffy puffy walking to the end of the street. It's terrible.

I got myself a personal trainer and not a "cheerleader" personal trainer....a BOOT CAMP personal trainer. I need someone who is going to tell me shut up and just do it. That's what I needed. I didn't join a gym though, she does it out of her basement.

It's really bad but after the evaluation session of 20 minutes I was so sore for days. I don't know if you "need" exercise for the band but it may get you where you want to be faster and that's my personal goal :)

Good luck!!!!!!

Highly recommend lap swimming or even Water aerobics. You can lower or increase your intensity. Low impact. Also water proof MP3 player is sooo worth the money.

You should be getting huffy and puffy and sweaty when you exercise - and if walking does that for you, then it IS enough - for now. It wont remain enough. Anyone with reasonable fitness is going to need more than walking to keep getting fitter and losing weight. But face that bit when you come to it, you'll be ready then. Dont try to go from 0 to 100 in one move.

If you're weak and feeling ill even with light exercise, something isnt right. You may be dehydrated, you may need to eat before hand, try those things. Check your blood pressure too perhaps?

I agree with Jachut. When I tried walking I was so out of breath and weak I had to call my husband to pick me up from down the street. So I tried walking again, but in the shallow end of our pool. It was much easier, less stress on my joints, and I didn't feel sick. If I got too hot, I just dunked myself under and kept going. Later I added some Water aerobic exercises, and now I'm up to swimming laps. The other day I was dogsitting and my granddog needed to go for a walk. I was so hesitant, but he needed to go. I did, and I was surprised at how well I did. For the first time ever, HE couldn't keep up with ME!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
