About how much food volume

Recommended Posts

I haven't had my first fill yet and I was wondering about how much food I will be able to eat, volume wise before feeling full.

I have just been cleared to eat pretty much any healthy and safe choices I want. I have eaten a whole McDonalds premium salad with grilled chicken and low cal/fat dressing without actually feeling full or any discomfort. I am thinking this may be a bit too much though (volume wise). I am guessing that things will change after my first fill but want to get an idea on how much food is going to be appropriate to eat at one sitting. I want to get used to this before the first fill if possible.

Am I doing anything wrong? Should I not be eating so much?

Thanks

Hi there,

The McDonald's salads are pretty big. When I order their salads, I would only eat 1/3 of it and save the rest for later.

Plus, salads don't really fill you up.

Since you don't have any restriction yet, its understandable that you can eat without discomfort. But try practicing now and cutting back your portion sizes to a cup of food at each sitting. I had my first fill last week and I do fill restriction, but I know its not my "sweet spot" yet because I do still feel hungry sometimes.

Hang in there :0) I hope this helps. So start off with 3 oz of lean meat, and 1/2 cup of veggies .

I can't wait to think of much smaller portions of food as a good-sized meal. I am doing a much better job at home, but when I forget to take something with me to work, its been hard to find good quick food. I was normally just getting a fruit/yogurt parfait from them if I needed something, but was real hungry so I got the salad.

Oh, I know how you feel ! When I am out and about without a packed snack, I go into panic mode. But its good that you chose to have a salad instead of nuggets! That's an awesome start. One problem I have is eating too fast.

Sigh, still learning myself ! Good luck :0)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
