Hi - i had lapband surgery on Wed - i came home the same day and slept OK that night - with pain meds - but the last 2 nights have been hard - i can't seem to get comfortable - i usually sleep on my side, but then i cough and it hurts my tummy - when i sleep flat on my back i cough and it hurts my neck and shoulders - i do have some pain in my shoulders from gas i guess, and when i sleep it keeps me awake - i moved to just tylenol because i don't like the vicodin - i have some congestion in my nose and chest so i sleep better sitting up - but only for a few hours at a time - i'm coughing up a lot of phlem - should i do more with the breathing exercise? so night seems to last forever and i don't feel rested. I was hoping to go back to work on Mon but i have to have my sleep - any other suggestions out there???

Take the vicodin at night. It will help you sleep. Are you holding a pillow against your stomach when you cough? That will help give you support and lessen the pain. Does the tylenol handle your pain level? If not, call your surgeon and ask for something different than the vicodin. Is it jus the narcotic "high" you don't like or something else? There might be alternatives that are stronger than tylenlol.

When I was banded I caught a cold around the time I was in the hospital, it was no fun being congested and coughing. I took one week off and tried to return the second. Ended up doing half-time the second week. I am fortunate that I have a great boss who told me to work what I could work.

Hope you are feeling better soon!

I was banded on 6/8 and for the first 8 night I could not sleep in my bed. I am a stomach / side sleeper but obviously those position were out of the question. I slept on the couch propped up with pillows for those 8 nights. A few days after surgery I was able to lay slightly on my side on the couch with my back propped up against the back of the couch. 11 days post-op now and I am definitely more comfortable laying in my bed and on my side.

It does get easier!! Good Luck !!

If you have a Recliner sleep in that, you will find a comfortable position. Also a couple pillows where ever you want to put them. Use one for the coughing, hold it firm against the incision. Also YES,,, do your breathing exercises.

I'm 10 days post op and I'm still using the breathing exercise, so I think you should and it will help with your congestion. Also I used a heating pad and it really helped with my back pain. I also have to use a pillow under my stomach when I sleep on my side. I hope everything gets better for you, I think when your cold goes away it will help everything. Good Luck!laugh.gif

I slept in a recliner the first week. Then I moved to the bed.

Everyone heels different too so,,, it's kinda like hit & miss.

You will know though, just keep trying.

I slept on my side right away. I propped myself with pillows behind my back and in front of me. I guess you have to do what works for you!

I could sleep on my right side after about four days; and but it took almost a week and a half to be able to sleep on my left side; I got banded on the 8th and I can sleep any ol' way I want to now. I took Shirley54's advice the first few days and slept in the recliner; it really helped!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
