Hi everyone, I'm 3 weeks banded (yesterday) and I'm having trouble with Fluid building up under my biggest incision, which is where my port is, I've already had fluid drained twice but as soon as it's done it comes back, I have like a very firm tennis ball size lump which just won't go down, except for immediately after being drained,it sticks out just as much when I stand as when I'm laying down, and there doesn't appear to be an infection, but my gp put me on anti biotics just in case, waiting to hear from last fluid being tested, but it doesn't feel infected, just big, hard and a bit sore, is this usual for anyone else??? and does it settle down?? my surgeon did the first drainage and was adamant that it wouldn't happen again but it did just a week later, I really don't want this "big lump" for the rest of my life, and I'm very overweight so it's not like it's only showing cause I have no fat there!! any help, advice or just a chat would help I'm sure, thanks, Joanne

Sometimes this happens after surgery and it doesn't last forever. My SIL has had it after two surgeries and they called it a seroma. The first time they ended putting a drain in for a while and it eventually stopped draining. You will do fine. Just remember that when all this healing is done it will be worth it all! Keep us informed of how you are doing.

It happened to me after my port revision and took several months to absorb.....everything I read says that draining rarely is a permanent fix because it is a reaction of the muscle tissue where the port is sewn on and until the muscle quits being irritated it will continue to make the Fluid as a buffer. I have read several posts where it has happened after Plastic Surgery, too, and always goes away eventually. I did feel like I had a big old alien trying to get out, LOL!!!!

wow, several months :( I was wondering whether to just leave it and see if it absorbs, did you mean that draining it all the time won't really fix it?? and omg, I'm sure I've started to have nightmares about and alien getting ready to pop out of me, not nice, funny but not nice lol, thanks Mimi

Months is worst case scenario, weeks is more like it, LOL!!!! I would stop draining it and take a wait ad see stance....it can't hurt anything to wait and see....I wish I hadn't deleted my "alien baby" picture...you would really be spooked!!!! Don't worry, I have been reading about seromas for a long time and have been reading this board a long time and nobody has ever posted about a permanant seroma. Try to take it in stride and talk to it nicely, LOL!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
