Recommended Posts

I am 4 weeks post op and was cleared to work with my personal trainer again. I have already gone back in the gym and complete an hour of cardio. I normally would do some ab work as well, however i am PETRIFIED!! i'm soooo afraid that i willl pop a stitch or some how hurt my port. I know i am healed now, but still scared. has anyone else felt like this? How did you start your ab workouts?

I was afraid to get started. Well actually I was afraid to start on solids. I was banded April 12th and I started with my personal trainer 6/9. I realize now that I could have started a lot sooner. I am do abs like nobody's business. The only thing that I was careful of is lifting heavy objects. My trainet had me lifting a 40lb kettle ball yesterday and I was fine. You will be fine.

Good Luck

Just take it slow and don't do any extreme moves. Discomfort is ok, sharp pain is not. My doctor has a rule, "if it hurts, don't do it". I'll work through discomfort, pain, I stop.

As time goes on, you'll get more comfortable with what you're able to do.

I would take it easy on ab work so soon after surgery. My port flipped right after surgery and I was not doing anything to strenuous other than hiking. Take care and take it slow.

It took me awhile to feel comfortable doing any kind of abdominal work. Now I mostly just do some ab work on this thing called a captain's chair. You hold your arms on the armrests, bent at your elbow. You grab on to the pegs at the end of the armrest and you pull your knees up to your chest and down. You can also hold your legs out straight and lift.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
