Dr's. in Dallas?

Recommended Posts

My insurance will not cover the weight loss surgery, however I am very near to having my finances inline to pay for it myself. I have a hernia that I would like to have fixed at the same time.

Was wondering if anyone knew of a Dr in Dallas or Fort Worth that would do both and my insurance will cover the hernia. Am I correct in thinking that this might help reduce my cost?

I'm not in Dallas, but I'm a member of the DFWBandsters group. There are people on that list that work with several bariatric surgeons, someone there might have the info you seek.

Good luck!

Dr. David Kim in Colleyville TX did mine. I did not know I had a hernia until surgery but when I came out he said I did and that he fixed it. He's AWESOME. He's done thousands of lapbands and gastric surgeries. He had even done famous people like Dallas Cowboy Nate Newton. I even know they work wity you on finances. Good luck to you!!

I was just reading about Dr. Kim and he comes with very high recomendations.

I had my surgery done at True Results in Richardson. They have several surgeons to choose from. They can quote you an all inclusive price. They quoted me a price based on the surgery and didn't charge me extra eventhough I had the hernia repair which took a few extra minutes in the operating room. Then I had blood pressure problems and spent two extra hours in recovery and they didn't charge extra for that either. It is worth checking into.

Dr. Kim did my surgery, repairing the hernia at the same time as placing the lap band. I was self-pay also. They charged my insurance for the hernia portion of the operation, and insurance paid a portion of it. I was not responsible for any amount that insurance didn't pay. Dr. Kim's office charges a set fee for self-pay patients. PS I dislike his manner but respect his skill. Luckily, I have seen his PA's for follow up appointments, instead of him. The whole staff is very nice.

Thanks everyone. Can't remember where I heard it, but have heard that the hernia being billed to insurance can reduce the bariatic cost.

Have heard of Dr Kim and am starting to form a list to start checking all of this out.

Check out Dr. Robert Snow at True Results located in Hurst, TX (in DFW area). I think he's wonderful and very good. I also had a hernia to be repaired. His whole office staff is very supportive

Love Dr Kim! His staff is great and they only want the best for you and to see you succeed. I think Kris and I were banded on the same day lol. Good luck deciding on your doctor.

I went through True Results originally at the Richardson location (had the actual surgery at the Ft. Worth location because of insurance) . I have a WLS exclusion on my insurance policy, so they wouldn't cover it. I had a hernia though and insurance covered that repair surgery! All I had to pay for was the actual band, which was $5,500! Also, fills are free for a year! Gotta love it!

I went through Dr. Kim also. He fixed my hernia too and to me that's been worth it's weight in gold. I used Forest Park Medical center for my fills and they were great too.

Good luck!

Dr. Benavides in Richardson at True Results Clinic...He is fabulous!! I have heard others talk about him too and it's all good!! One of the first doctors to do Lap Band. He repaired my hernia too, they said they would send that part to the insurance and if they paid great, if they didn't not to worry about it. Great follow up...1 year after banding.

Good Luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
