I just got my lapband this morning. My mom and aunt and I were in it together so that was nice. I was super freaked out this morning but once they put the IV in I took a nap and felt so much better right before they started. I got in the operating room and next thing I knew I was waking up in recovery.

The gas hurts so bad. I feel miserable. I had heard to walk it out, but I can barely get myself to walk across the living room. What did everyone else do to ease the pain?

Also, how is everybody getting those cute little tickers on their notes? I made one but I don't know how to make a signature I guess is what I need to do :)

I had to walk A LOT to relive a bit of the gas pain. For me, it actually got worse on POD# 2 and 3. I was told to keep moving positions in bed so that the gas would eventually come out! It did help, but its just something that will pass (pun intended!!! LOL) Hang in there!!!

I know that I was up walking at least 5x in the time I was in the hospital(had to have overnight stay per ins). I walked around the block with an assist aone i got home. Walking is important for healing, and walking upright is too. Your stomach area will heal better! Good luck, karen

What everyone else said, plus don't be afraid to take your pain meds as often as you are allowed. It's much easier to stay in control of pain than to get control of it in the first place.

Congratualtions on your lap band. Each day will get better. Walk as much as possible, take your gas-x strips and your pain meds!

Good luck!!!!!!

Thank y'all so much for the advice. I made myself walk around the living room in at least five minute increments about 5 times or so yesterday, and I think I'll have my hubby walk with me to the mailbox in a while. The gas x strips really did help some. I think most of the pain I'm feeling today is more the tightness of the band rather than the gas, so hopefully as the swelling goes down, I'll feel better :)

I think you'll feel better soon. Walking really does help. I walked A LOT and I only had gas pains for about three days. I'm a little over a week post-op and I am completely out of pain.

And yes, do take your pain medicine if you need it. As my partner says, "You don't get points for being in pain. If you need it, take it! That's why they gave it to you." I found that I needed it most at night. I had to sleep in the recliner for a couple of days and take my pain meds. In the last couple days I've been able to sleep on either side again, which has been wonderful.

You'll do just fine! Congratulations on your band.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
