I have been maintaining a 107 pound weight loss for the past 10 months or so. I have found my days have been either really good or really bad as far as my eating. I am doing great with the excersise. I gained 5 pounds I cannot seem to drop.

My question for those maintaining, how do you handle foods not on your typical eating plan. Do you have "treats" at all? Do you just have a little once in a while? I find once I eat something "bad" I say my day is blown so I might as well eat all the things I've been craving. Then I cut back severly for the next few days, sometimes just doing protien shakes for a day or 2. I know it's not the healthiest way to be, but I can't seem to get out of this pattern.

Any ideas are wecome. Thanks!

If I want a treat I eat it. Doesn't mean I blew the whole day. I just try to cut back from somewhere else to compensate for it.

I find maintenance pretty tough. I can't go with too much fill, a I loose to much weight, and I can't go without fill as I gain. I currently at 3 cc, and seem to be okay with that. Good luck. I have lost 104 lbs, but maintaining at about 100. Karen

I'm not sure I'm handling this the best way possible, but it's worked for the last 10 months or so.

I keep my band pretty loose and I eat what I want, for the most part. I eat treats but I try to limit the quantity. I've given myself a range that I can live with, 5 lbs up or down from my target weight. If I'm getting close to the upper limit, I cut back on the treats for a few days. I know that it's probably healthier, etc. to always eat wholesome, good-for-you foods, but I can't live that way. It makes me feel deprived and then I go off the deep end. I've done this too many times. So I've decided that I will get to the gym at least 3 days a weeks and I will watch my weight. I will NOT let that weight vary by more than 5 lbs. That range gives me enough flexibility to enjoy vacations and birthdays, but not so much that I can't find my way back.

I'm hoping it works long term, but this is new territory for me. It's just one day at a time for now.

Thanks so much, your plan sounds very similar to what I am trying to do. All the responses were helpfull. I think for now I am going to work on maintaining where I am and not worry about the 5 pounds. I hope this gets me out of the deprivation/bingeing mode I've been in. Thanks again.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
