Jachut 487 Posted June 22, 2011 A handroll does have rice - well it does here anyway, also known as California Rolls or Nori Rollsbut just long ones rather than slices.
Cpt. Ahab 5 Posted June 22, 2011 Some sushi restaurants offer brown rice instead of white - lower level of starch and carbs - plus it's less sticky. Also, for hand-rolls you can request soy paper - which is easier to bite on and dissolves easily. I love sushi and I'm glad it's one of the things I wont' have to give up on. Surgery is tomorrow! Fun.
HeatherinCA 10 Posted June 22, 2011 Just beware of sushi rice if you are well restricted. Can't count how many times I've been stuck on it, but love it so much I won't stop eating it. I don't do low carb, so rice is on my menu. But the sticky rice can be a big issue. As messy as it sounds (and is) I break the big rolls up and eat them in shreds. I don't get the full mix of flavors that way, but i don't get get stuck as often either! Yea.. i mean if you have to take small bites it's kind of a pain in the butt. I don't get stuck on it, but I can see how it could happen. A handroll does have rice - well it does here anyway, also known as California Rolls or Nori Rollsbut just long ones rather than slices. Right.. there really isn't a way to have a roll without rice right? Just get sashimi, or pick the filling out I guess!
Thee-O 15 Posted June 22, 2011 You can order hand rolls (not cut rolls) without rice. I order them that way all the time.
CATCHUP 0 Posted June 22, 2011 Thank you all so much for responding. I would like to try something different as was mentioned in a few post, does anyone else have any particular suggestions on their favorites? I don't want anything raw. But if you could mention the name and describe it a liitle it would be greatly appreciated. I am definitely going to try the sashima style. I think I would prefer that over the brown rice idea. Although I haven't ruled the brown rice out completely.
