OMG, can you overdose on protein drinks?

Recommended Posts

Most days, I have been drinking the Unsure recommended 4 a day which the Protein drink should be anywhere from 15-20g) BUT adding in milk is another 8 so

28X4=112

I've also been drinking the 15 gram Atkins here and there but MOSTLY Unsure with milk for three weeks?

Anyone know the answer to this? I'm surprised no one pointed this out to me during the process. GOAL is 60-80 g of Protein a day but I wasn't adding in the protein from the milk.

HELP!

TIA!

First off, that's awesome that you're hitting your daily Protein requirements!

I find it rather hard for me to do the same so I have to remind myself every hour of taking in more protein

for the next meal.

As for overdosing....I wouldn't think it'd be a problem, but your best bet is to call your doctor since he/she

knows your body.

You can overdose on Protein, but it would show up in your urine...

So the Protein would just come out in your urine? I was just reading it might turns to fat. Nice! I wish they had pointed this out to us b/c all I heard was 4 shakes a day and Unsure was ok and I could add skim milk.

The Protein requirements that my NUT suggested was 80-120g per day...I know it sounds high compared to what others have been told but it's working for me so I think your protein levels are fine.

I've hit 130g+ a day. Protein doesn't turn into fat, unless of course the protein you're taking in is excess calories..but anyway. Seems like you're on the right track.

I'm an RN. Protein can be hard on the kidneys but if you don't have kidney issues and you're not over 120 grams I shouldn't think there would be a problem. Just think of the Protein overload in a large steak!

Have you had any hair loss with this much protien?

Not until recently...but when I looked back on my food journals, I noticed that for the past couple of months my Protein levels dropped into the 70-80g per day range rather than the 80-120 range recommended to me so I am now trying to make sure that I increase my Protein intake a bit.

Not sure on the truth of this one, but,,, my Old Surgeon Told all of us "that if you eat to much Protein, it can be hard on the Kidneys, and it can cause weight gain !

So you can believe that I stayed between 60-80G a day.

If you have your urine tested and you're passi.g Protein, you're in s fair degree of trouble! Its not a simple case of if you eat too much you pee it out!

My nurse practitioner said that yes, there is such a thing as too much protein. But that happens only if you consume over 120 grams per day over a long period of time.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
