chest pain, lump in my throat...

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I had my surgery on June 10th. I was suffering from terrible gas, it seems to be starting to alleviate a little today, but the discomfort in my chest area is not getting any better, in fact it now seems more constant than previously. I dont really know how to describe it, its not a constant pain but more a constant feeling of having something lodged, as if i swallowed a tennis ball, its very uncomfortable, is this normal? is it also gas? I have been able to drink Water fine and my xray post op showed no problems...but the feeling is getting me down

Jaynie,

I have a feeling your surgeon might have out Fluid in your band at the time of surgery. Call you surgeon and find out if there is any fluid in your band. If there is, ask to have it removed. I see these posts all the time and that is often the problem.

Keep us posted.

Did you have a hernia repair? I did with my surgery in March and I had problems for about 2 1/2 weeks. It was just like you descibe. I even called and talked to my Doctor. She said with a hernia repair it is common. Then one day I realized in was gone! I have not had any more trouble.

That is the sensation I have when I'm stuck...I agree with CheckYes that you should see if you have Fluid in your band from surgery. It may be that you need a slight unfill...

Jaynie,

Someone else had the same thing and their surgeon hadn't removed the priming Fluid that the band comes with (allegedly). Seems like something is causing the problem. I'm wondering if the throat thing is from being intubated during surgery - it gave me a bit of a sore throat for a few days. Also, does the chest pain come with deep breathing? Sometimes I felt pain when I tried to breathe deeply - it went away.

Just keep an eye on it.

Jaynie, I had this. I was banded 4/13/11. Eat after 12 noon chew slow. The stuck feeling is from the placement of the band. It is swelling. It takes a few weeks. Be patient. It is not a problem other than annoying.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
