ybnormal143 0 Posted June 12, 2011 I am thinking about getting my lapband surgery done and just wondering if I can continue having drinks after the surgery. Thank you for your help
Rachel412 116 Posted June 12, 2011 Alcohol? Yes, they're OK in moderation. Some (most?) surgeons advise you to avoid carbonated drinks though. And alcohol may hit you a lot harder/faster post-surgery.
Tanya_cotto 5 Posted June 13, 2011 One of my friends limits herself to a shot glass full of whatever, That way she doesn't over drink, or drink to many empty calories Its an easy way to keep your drink portions under control! Hope this helps.
roziecakes 20 Posted June 13, 2011 I've heard that there are some surgeons who recommend that post-op folks drink wine (in moderation) because it can actually help weightloss. I don't know the mechanism though.

I don't know the mechanism though. I think it's good for your heart as well. It Raises Good Cholesterol Thins the Blood Helps prevent cancer and encourages your body to burn extra calories for 90 mins after you drink it! Yummers! vickyd 24 Posted June 13, 2011 There's no reason you can't although you need to plan for the calories that the drinks will have. Also, keep in mind that mixed drinks with carbonated mixers won't be good because of the carbonation and many people can't tolerate beer for a similar reason... Cindy C 150 Posted June 13, 2011 I am thinking about getting my lapband surgery done and just wondering if I can continue having drinks after the surgery. Thank you for your help Should probably wait til you get home from the hospital! Sorry couldn't resist! Seriously, tho. Alcohol has alot of empty calories. An occasional cocktail is ok, but that's really a habit you need to get away from if you want to be successful.

54Shirley 105 Posted July 21, 2011 My surgeon said NO ! Simply because it's fattening. To many unwanted calories.
CarynW 3 Posted July 21, 2011 My surgeon says NO carbonation, pretty much ever again after surgery because it wears the stitches out that keep the band in place. I love beer. LOVE beer. And I LOVE smirnoff ice flavored drinks. Waaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! But I also love some mixed drinks like Sex on the Beach and other drinks mixed with juices, so i guess i'll be switching to those when I want to drink. LPAYTON88 1 Posted July 22, 2011 When I go out and drink I stick to Vodka and Cranberry juice, that's the lesser of the evils. I can drink beer but I limit it to 1 or 2. I watched Dr. Oz the other day and they were saying if you are watching your calories Brandy is also an option.
amjcal 5 Posted July 23, 2011 I drink bloody mary's I am getting my veggie serving for the day, and only a shot of vodka. There is no carbonation, it is not loaded with sugar, and V8 also has Protein. My surgeon told me" you have to live", but the calories you intake should not be empty, because you need the nutrients.
