Advice Needed - Filled Too Much???

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

I was filled on Wednesday (7.2cc). I am now having trouble getting much of anything down. I must admit that I do have a BAD HABIT of eating fast. I am trying to chew more and eat slowly. The majority of what I have been eating is getting stuck, including eggs which are soft and I end up sick each time for well over an hour. I am able to eat chili and yogurt, but that is about it.

* Is this what restriction is...getting food stuck so you physically cannot eat or is restriction feeling full quicker after you eat?

* Can I attribute all of these episodes to eating too fast and not chewing enough?

* Or is it possible I am overfilled and should have a little removed?

I would greatly appreciate any advice...Thanks!

It is possible you are overfilled, but since you can get liquids and mushies like chili down, I think you can test it a bit more. How long did you wait after the fill before moving on to solids? It's possible you've irritated your stomach by pushing forward too soon after the fill and now you're swollen from getting stuck.

Go on liquids for the next 48 hours (clear liquids), then introduce full liquids for 24 hours, then mushies. See if that helps. If this is exactly what you've already done, then yes, you may need a smidge taken out.

Edited to add: No, that is not what restriction is. You are overfilled if you can't get down solid Proteins and vegetables.

There is a possible to be over fill. Are you able to get Water down. After you had your fill did you to liquids then gradually change foods to soft then regular. Restriction can be the point where u are full of a couple bites. I haven't gotten there yet. I had surgery in january 2011. So I am still learning.

"Restriction" is a misnomer- when you're at a "sweet spot" you should be able to feel full with a cup of food, and stay full for 4-5 hours. You shouldn't be getting stuck or having to resort to liquids or mushy foods for every meal.

Hope this helps, it helped me: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
