IrishAnna 0 Posted January 24, 2006 I am being banded Feb 7th but am a bit concerned that I don't have to do a pre diet, is this ok? Anna
Parvathi 2 Posted January 24, 2006 Each surgeon is different with regards to their requirements. My doctor insisted I do an Optifast (diet drink) diet for two weeks before surgery. He said it was to ensure my liver wasn't too fatty. Perhaps it would put your mind at ease to just ask your doctor why he doesn't require it? Or watch what you eat til surgery? Or ... thank the heavens you don't have to lol
IrishAnna 0 Posted January 24, 2006 Hi Jess Thank you for your reply. I have every intention of pigging out the night before! Do I at least have to fast from midnight the night before? Anna
Alexandra 55 Posted January 24, 2006 Any surgery typically requires that you have nothing by mouth for 12 hours prior to general anaesthesia. You'll probably get those instructions from the doctor as you get closer to your surgery date. As Parvathi said, not all docs require a preop diet, and even those who do don't prescribe it for everyone. We're all difference. I didn't have any pre-op diet instructions at all, except "don't gain weight."
Iluvharleys 15 Posted January 24, 2006 I didn't have to have a pre-diet either, so don't worry.
