Got my first fill and still hungry

Recommended Posts

I got my first fill Thursday and I waited 48 hours to eat normal foods. I was on the go last night and picked up some chili from Wendys thinking that would be the best bet since I could chew it up real well ( pretty new to the massive chewing and trying to get used to the prosess). I also picked up 5 nuggets thinking since I was driving it may fill me up after 2 or 3. Well nothing, I ate all the nuggets and all the chili when I got home and was still hungry. I know that the first fill always doesnt work. I asked my doctor and he said he put 3cc's in. I drank some Water and I knew it was going down slow. I thought that was it. I know my band is a big one and can hold 15cc's. My question is what now? Do I wait till my next Dr appointment to get another fill or call and get more in when they open on Monday? Another thing is that my doctor will be out of the counrty and gave me a list of other Doctors I could see if I was having trouble. Pretty much if it was too tight. So should I call them and get another fill. I just dont know if you wait between fills? Or do you keep going back till you hit this sweet spot I hear people talk about? I'm just ready to get this ball rolling and start losing. Thanks

Give it a little time...it took me about 2 weeks before I really started to feel the fill after the initial tightness went down. My dr warned me that this is normal, especially after the first fill. Being overfilled is horrible, so I wouldn't rush into trying to get anymore in just yet. If after 3 weeks you're still not feeling any restriction I would check back in with your doc. Hope this helps!

A fill can take up to two weeks to take affect. Most doctors won't give an additional fill until 3 weeks has gone by. Not to be a downer but it took me 5 months to get some restriction and another month to get the appropriate restriction. As for Wendy's I would suggest a baked potato instead of nuggets; you can put the chili on the potato to help it along.

I agree with the other posters that sometimes fills can take a few days or more to really kick on but most peole dont get good restriction after the 1st fill. I was exactly where you were at my first fill..and second and third ....I didn't start feel restriction until about my 4th fill..and my doctor wouldnt fill but every 6 weeks.....It all depends on your doctor and how soon they do fills after the initial. I would at least give it a few week though. I know its hard but use this time to try and follow and learn the band rules. Start exercising and watching what you eat..I actually did weight watchers for the first several months before I hit restriction. ..I was so frustrated..but it will happen...just stick with it and dont worry ....before you know it you will be losing:) Good luck!

A potato from wendy's isn't such a good idea. Potatoes are high glycemic foods and tend to make us hungrier sooner. The nuggets were a better choice, even if they were fried.

Look up information on the glycemic index http:www.glycemicindex.com

Hang in there! U have to employ some will power & think about what u r eating. I've only had 1 fill so far, I go back in a week for #2, & I don't have much restriction @ all but I methodically track my food & daily calorie burn. I have lost 8 lbs even though I don't have restriction :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
