What is the policy on coffee, in the pre op and in the post op? I love coffee so much that my partner is Colombian.

The policy is different for different doctors, but I drink it every morning before I eat. No problems!

My doctor never said no coffee. In fact there's always a pot in his waiting room. I drink it everyday. It helps loosen my band in the morning.

My Dr never said no coffee either but suggested I limit caffeine. I don't drink it daily but I see nothing wrong with it.

My doctor's office asks for you to not have pre op and none for the first few months post op, but once you are back to normal diet it's ok in lesser quantities and they ask that we limit caffiene intake and make sure to compensate extra liquids when we do partake in caffiene. Good luck! :)

My doctor let me have coffee right after surgery. I had read all this stuff that said I couldn't have any... but he said it was fine, especially because I have no history of reflux or heartburn. Believe it or not though, I haven't had any since I've gotten home... funny enough. I used to drink two or three cups a day.

So I love coffee, but with Creamer I can do the fat free creamer, but not the sugar free. This morning I had coffee, with Hazelnut Creamer and unflavored Protein Shake blended in. It was yummy!! rolleyes.gif I am under the assumption that I will no longer be able to drink creamer, because it is empty calories. I work graveyards and a lot of nights depend on coffee to get me through the night. Does anyone use creamer in their coffee and does it cause any problems?

Thanks

Hi Amjcal,

I have one cup of each morning. Most days I use the fat free Creamer and on others I use the vanilla. It has not caused me any problems.

Good luck :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
