Surgery 6/6/11

Recommended Posts

I had surgery on june 6th, and am recovering like a rock star...I feel so lucky my surgery went well, and even more so my insurance covered it. Because the hospital I work at does the surgeries, my out of pocket will be very little. As of this morning am down 20 pounds, mostly due to the wonderful pre op diet! Thanks to Dr. Bright and his wonderful staff for making this happen for me!

Way to go Kat!!! I too had surgery on the 6th and feel the same way. I am down 17 pounds as of today and while I still have a long way to go I choose to believe this is a sign of all the good things to come. I am prepared for whatever is ahead but I am choosing to look to the positive side of things. I won't wish you good luck I will wish you HAPPY LOOSING :) Keep up the great work.

I'm a fellow June 6th-er. I have suffered from the dreaded shoulder/neck gas pains even with all my walking. I still feel like a "patient" and not really myself yet. Hopefullly that changes soon!

Congrats Katie :) I too was banded on June 6th. I have been lucky I have not needed gas x but I have had the dreaded gas  also lucky that from day 1 I have been able to burp and on day 2 as my 3 year old son would say "toot" that has made a lot difference. How are you doing with everything else?

It's so good to read about others who are doing so well! I got banded on the 8th and I'm doing fantastic. I'm really surprised at how well it's going. Congratulations on your progress!! I loved reading this thread.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
