I found out my surgery date yesterday(VERY excited biggrin.gif) and I have started getting prepared for my post op liquid diet. I have purchased a tub of muscle milk light(cookies n cream flavor) but I was wondering if anyone has tried the Isopure fruit flavor? My local GNC had the sour apple, blue raspberry, pineapple and orange flavors. Has anyone tried these flavors, and if so which were your favorite? I would like to have variety so I don’t get tired of drinking the shakes. I appreciate any input and if you have any other suggestions that would be great!!

These helped me because I could no longer stomach the shakes after surgery. The GNC web site sells a "variety pack" of the Isopure which lets you try 6 flavors. I think it qualifies for free shipping. You can then pick your favorite. All the flavors were ok... much better than the shakes. I would definitely try them.

I am right there with you on June 16th and am in the same "mode" as you are!! I tried the Isopure Apple Melon (yum and tart), the Grape, and some Blue Raspberry! All so far are very good so far as I too anticipate needing a break from the milky consistences. I went to costco today and got the Premier Protein ready to drink and some vanilla Protein powder made by Muscle Milk. Both at costco and much less expensive than GNC but no fancy flavors. Just vanilla and chocolate. Anyway I have not tried the Isopure powder, just the bottled ready to drink ones!! Happy Protein Hunting!!! And good luck next week!!

Hi--

Why were you not able to stomach the shakes after surgery? Was it because you were sick of them OR because of the band? My surgery is this Friday!!! Sooooo nervous~

Thanks for your reply!

Hi,

For me, I had bought the Bariatric Advantage shake mix. That was the only shake my doctor would allow. To me they tasted horrible before the surgery and I would "chug" them down to get them out of the way. After surgery, the smell, texture, taste everything jsut made me sick to my stomach and I would start to gag. It had nothing to do with the band. I think it was just me. But I have heard about some really good shakes on here that had I known, I would have tried those before surgery. I definitely dont recommend Bariatric Advantage. So it is good you are getting all this info before surgery so you will be ready. Good Luck with Surgery on Friday...I am sure you'll do great.

Dont be too nervous. I was too, but it went a lot easier than I thought it would. I had no gas pain at all. Actually other than being a little sore where the main incision was, it wasnt bad at all. I never took any pain medication after. My surgery was at 10 and I was home by 5:30 that day. 3 weeks out, I am almost completely healed. I've lost 35 pounds since May 9th.

I wish you much success!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
