I was banded on May 19th and my husband and I have an anniversary coming up. Can i drink wine? Will it hurt my lap band? I am super worried but would love a glass of wine to Celebrate our lives together. It is our tradition at the same restraunt for 4 years. Please let me know as I am eager to tell him the news.

Plus i hear that we get drunk faster. Is this still true even though i have no saline in my band yet?

Thanks,

Matheny

Today is my 6 month anniversary of being banded and I drink wine...never had a problem. I think most doctors advise against it because of the calories. Congratulations!

Yes I agree, I don't think it will hurt the band at all. 2 caveats are that it has lots of calories and could reduce your inhibitions so you may eat something not on your plan. Havea great anniversary!

the don't drink is because of calories - and I think the only reason you may get drunk quicker is because you are taking in less calories and losing weight/body mass - drink and glass of wine with your hubby and have a Happy Anniversarybiggrin.gif

I was banded almost a year. Every so often I have a margarita or even a beer. Draw back is that alcohol has empty calories. Also, if you have been banded awhile and have not drank alcohol in a while and have lost weight you could have an unfamiliar reaction. Take it slow.

They don't want you to swim/take a bath while your wounds are still healing... you take a chance of getting infection. I think my Dr. said 1 month. It's been a while, I can't remember exactly.

Wine is fine! Stay away from Champagne and beer, the bubbles aren't good on the tummy for many folks.

I don't think it will be a problem as far as hurting the band, but just be careful because I know when I drink it lowers my inhibitions and I eat things I shouldn't. As long as you are aware of that you should be ok. Happy Anniversary!

All Drs are different. I was allowed to swim after the 2nd day!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
