Hi- I am new to this whole thing. I only began having a serious weight problem about 4years ago, although I've always struggled, I had never been over a size 12....Then I hit 40 and everything changed..I also was put on medications and that had an effect. I had normally been between 150-170 pounds tops and I could live with that...now, for the first time, I am about 215 lbs and I am only 5'1"....I just got my surgery date, June 29th, and I find myself desperate to eat as much as possible sinc I know that I wont be able to eat normal for a long time

If you are desperate to eat all of the time now, what behaviors are you going to start towards being successful with the band, and when are you going to start????

Your future eating habits are your new normal........

Unless you either aren't expressing your reality in this post, or are really feeling this way continually, I too would worry.

While getting a surgery date is so exciting, are you truly ready????

I'm sorry this is so bottom line.........but I too have wrestled with these questions in making my own decision. They gave me the motivation to commit to change.

I understand your apprehension. I have been banded since May 13, 2010. It has been a whirlwind of changes and learning. I was nervous about surgery too and ate a lot pre-surgery for the same reasons, what if I can't have... and am glad I did. Now I can't eat bread, Pasta, eggs, lettuce and fresh veggies. I miss salad most and okay pasta. I can eat one bite of pasta and rice but salad no way. Surgery is a big change and change is scary but I am here to say I am glad and grateful I did it. Not only do I feel good in my skin I have a better self esteem. My friends have even commented on how out of my shell I have gotten. I was a horrible snacker and just plain overate now that has changed it had to. IF you weren't nervous I would be more worried. IF you accept and are willing to make the changes you will be fine. My motto and feeling now is "Nothing taste as good as skinny feels." And it is true, I loved pasta and pizza but as good as they are feeling good about my appearance is better than those things. I am 38 yo, my pre-surgery weight was 235, my current weight is 163.5, I am 5'6. My weight loss has slowed and I am not at goal but I am glad I did it. I needed support and encouragement that it was an okay change and it would be worth it. I give that to you now, if you can accept and make permanent changes you will do great.

Your apprehension is normal. You will find a new normal in the way you eat. Now I can not imagine eating the large portions that I once did. And prat72 is correct..."nothing tastes as good as skinny feels!"
