1st fill: When can I eat raw vegetables?

Recommended Posts

I just had my first fill and am confused. I will be on liquids and then mushy foods for a few days. After that the doctor said I can go to dry foods. I was wondering when I could eat raw vegetables and if some cause problems more than others.

I love to snack on raw vegetables, but now, after having my 3rd fill, those are pretty much a thing of the past. Too hard. Carrots are the worst.

If you want to eat raw carrots grate them.If you eat them in chunks you could get stuck so badly that it requires an unfill - I know a number of people this has happened to.

If i remember correctly, i was allowed raw veggies after 3 months. When you eat them be sure to chew very well...I regularly eat baby carrots but I make absolutely sure that I chew them to death so they don't get stuck.

We got thru phases at differing rates. It took about a year before I was brave enough to try such as carrots, cauliflower or brocoly in the raw. You will learn how to do such as the right time. In the meanwhile, steamed and soft is good.

what else is on your list of cant eat? I think my band is at a perfect restriction but I dont know what I should stay away from. I found today that deep dish pizza crust is a no no, and toast is out. I didnt know this about these vegetables.

I am at restriction and was allowed raw veggies when I was back on solids. I have baby carrots everyday for lunch though I dip them in hummus.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
