All of the official literature about banding says it is realistic to expect weight loss of 1-2 lbs. per week. I am 2 days post op and just wanted to hear what others specifically found to be a realistic rate of loss.

i do think that's realistic. i'm 8 months out and have lost 90 pounds since my surgery date. i work my butt off pretty much everyday, so you could lose more than 1-2 pounds per week; but it really depends on your effort. i try not to have too high of expectations so i don't feel let down if i don't hit more than 1 pound per week.

I just want to say this...don't be discouraged if it starts off S-L-O-W. You haven't done anything wrong, you're not failing, but it sucks. It's just the time between surgery and your first fill where you will drop slowly. But be encouraged! It will get better!!! After my first fill I've been losing abt 2-3 lbs/wk

Yeah, it's realistic. I lost a lot in the beginning because I didn't have a pre-op liquid diet, but now that's about the rate I'm at... a couple of pounds a week. Of course plenty lose more and some lose less.

Within the last few months where I've really kicked my efforts into high gear, I lose about 3lbs a week. But keep in mind I'm exercising about two hours a day, it's all about what you put into it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
