Just Lovely! 4 days post-op and getting an un-fill

Recommended Posts

I haven't been able to breathe well since awakening from surgery. I feel like I have BAD pleuralsy upon breathing in and out. I started getting a tight feeling in my upper chest above my breasts today and my throat feels a little tighter. I've put this off on gas pains. I feel dizzy and unstable when I try to balance myself today.

I just called my Dr's nurse and she asked when I could be there to remove any amount of saline that the Dr. put in because it sounded like I had swollen up more than they had expected?? I'm freaking out and beginning to question if this was the right choice for me. This is so discouraging and I'm in tears over this.

I really need any positive thoughts, prayers, and vibes right now, please.

I'm not banded yet but will pray for you. From what I've been hearing via online research, what you are experiencing is not that uncommon...but again I am not where you are.

Hopefully once you get to your doctor's office and they remove some Fluid you will recover quickly. Sending postive thoughts your way!!! Please keep us posted!!

Prayers and hugs,

kristi

Are you able to feet fluids down? If so maybe it's an allergic reaction to medication they have given you during surgery or after.maybe try some liquid benadryl. I had pain and tightness while breathing too, mostly in the morning. The little breathing machine they give you to prevent pneumonia really helped. Hope they give you good news, I'll pray for you..

Just made it home from the Dr's office and the nurse unfilled my band completely which resulted in taking out 1 cc of saline and the rest was air. She said I was way too tight. This helped a lot, however I am still having pleuralsy type pain in my left ribs. I am to go back on Thursday afternoon for my Dr. to make a rib adjustment. We'll see how that goes. I also got a steroid shot today in my right arm. While my husband and I was there another couple came in for the same thing. My husband recognized this couple, the gentleman was banded right after me that morning. He went the day after surgery and had 1/2 cc removed and back today with complaints for the rest to be removed.

Thank you both for your input. I think now it's just time to rest myself again.

So glad it was somewhat of an "easy" fix and that you're feeling a little better. Rest now and take your time to heal. ;)

The big thing is to not dwell on it. I had to have my band unfilled about a week after getting it, it was causing major problems. We waited something like two weeks, maybe three, and put Fluid back in and I was back on track. You will be too.

I thought you had to wait six weeks post opp for your first fill. I am so ready for mine. I am three weeks post surgey and still haven't had a fill.

I didn't think there was anything in my band but apparently there was. The nurse said they put some saline in during operation to check the band and some gets left behind for whatever reason.

Anyhow, I feel great today and no rib pain thus far today so maybe I won't have to go for a rib adjustment on Thursday.

Any time they fill or UN fill ,,,, you must stay on liquids, or you can swell up !

The rule that we go by is 3 days of fluids, 1 day of mushies, and then try food.

So being newly stay on fluids for a while. Lukewarm, not cold, or hot ! just stay neutral.

You will then be fine.

It amazes me that any doctor would put Fluid in the band immediately after surgery. The body needs time to heal first. My doctor won't do a fill until 8 weeks post op. He also requires a 4 week (post op) liquid diet. 2 weeks of clear followed by 2 weeks of full. I have discovered here that doctors do so many things differently. I guess that's why its called "practicing" medicine!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
