I have Federal BCBS and my surgery was about $21,000. They paid all but about $3000. I am so fortunate that insurance covered this as so many carriers don't.

I have Anthem BC and they pay 80%, my 20% is almost $3,000 and does NOT include the anesthesiologist. If you have a surgeon already, ask them where they have the procedure done. Call the surgical center or hospital and speak to the business office, they can tell you how much you will be paying based on the type of insurance you have. Keep in mind or ASK about anesthesia. I did not ask and assumed it was included. I was wrong. I will be paying 20% of that as well and they run $1500 an hour. Good Luck!

Mine covers the whole surgery, i just pay 30% of the band device, not the whole surgery. Was curious if anyone knew the cost of only the band.

Is that not $5000? You must have had other stuff done. I am about $715. but even so I think I pray it wont be but a few hundred.. (pray) I said. so when are you getting done and this is with FEPBLU?

We hit our $5k in May. Both of my kids were very sick this year and hosptalized and I am on a lot of expensive medication that I hope to get rid of with the surgery. It doesn't take long. This is one reason I am so anxious to get the surgery this year.

If you can have it done in-patient fed bcbs covers more that way since your not at your cap yet out patient you will be responsilbe for 30% of the band it self which can be upwards of $2000 on our end 70/30 split which i believe is the most expensive part of the surgery i read the benfits brochure 20x's lol just to be sure and i haveing my pre surgery appt tommorw afternoon wed is my pre admit with hospital and the following tues the 11th im schduled for surgery i have a child who has stuff done that chews up my out of pocket co pays pretty quickly

Yea I guess with kids -it will do it-- it is just me so, I think the MAX- should be different than a family! Anyhow tomorrw is my last visit-- and we shall see where we go from there,, trying NOT be anxious.

I also think each state is different in prices, I hear plces like SC is much cheaper than say NY, somehow it is all involved with the hospital, as they NEVER just say the band is $$$. Just like mechanics lol, base price plus markup..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
