I find loads of exercise (HARD exercise) really controls this for me. It shifts my focus from "I can't eat" to kind of me becoming an "athlete" and I dont want to ruin my next performance. Believe me I'm far from an athlete but exercise does something to my head where I just feel so darn great.

In fact I'm looking at this whole thing as me becoming fitter. I dont want to just get skinny, I want one of those really really fit bodies. In my mind's eye I dont see my final triumph as getting into a slinky dress or anything, I see full body push ups and being able to just go out my front door for a 40 minute run. That kind of achievement really makes me feel elated.

Sorry that probably doesnt help much, probably just illustrates to everyone that I'm completely mental.

But all the same, even if you dont go off into fantasies of the Olympics, a bit of hard exercise makes you way less peckish.

hmmm, depends on what situation Im in as to how I handle the head hunger.

Sometimes I try to analyze exactly WHAT Im craving (or why Im hungry 20 minutes after I eat) because it could be my body needing some Vitamin.

Or, I go shopping.

Or, if Im stressing about something and all I want to do is eat (emotional hunger).... well usually, I just eat. Sorry, I had to be honest.

Months ago someone gave a list of things to occupy our minds when we find ourselves with head hunger....

here are a couple that i remember.

1. Work puzzles or crosswords

2. call a friend

3. play on the computer (LBT :thankyou: )

4. go for a walk

5. eat (no, just kidding)

6. go shopping (my favorite)

I wish I could remember more.

sorry if I wasnt a big help - Im struggling with this demon myself.

Agatha, you should atten the Abkin Bertha support group meeting at the end of February. The psychologist is supposed to come in and talk about head hunger and how to address it.

Hope to see you there,

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
