I'm being banded June 6th. My biggest concern is recovery time. I don't do well laying in bed. I live on a ranch and have many, many responsibilities. I have hired someone to help me with chores. How long before I'm back on my feet?

I would plan on not doing much for at least a week. And no heavy lifting for 2-3weeks. Your body will tell you when to quit. I was really out of it and on the couch for 3 days after surgery. Back up and walking and back to work after 5 days. Exercising after 2 weeks. Good luck!

I had surgery May 26th and was shopping (but tired easily) two days later. Went to my post op appt on June 2nd and doctor said I could do anything I felt like doing. Just be careful. Listen to your body. Remember everyone is different.

I wouldn't plan on much for the first 7 days. I felt good and came back to work on day 5 but have a desk job. There is no way I could have done "rancher" responsiblities. there is NO heavy lifting for at least 4 weeks. You are healing internally so while you incision may look nice and healed, your insides are not so you don't want to mess them up. There were days 3 weeks out that I'd pick up my son who is 35 pounds and I could feel it......not a good feeling.

The first day I did nothing but lay in the lazy-Boy and watch TV, only because I could!

By day 3, I was climbing the walls, went out and did some errands. Day 5 I went to work only because I could not stay home any longer. Took it easy though and did not stay all day.

Day 7 was my follow my with the Dr. Asked him about exercising, lifting heavy objects, etc, and he cleared me that day. Then as I was leaving, he laughed and said "But don't overdo it"

I am a very active, hard working man. I think it varies from person to person.

Thank you everyone. It sounds like it will be a week until I can feed horses and a month before I can lift feed or hay. It will be a long month!

I consider myself VERY active...can't-sit-still kind of guy. I'm in a wheelchair but I still do all my yardwork and even do minor repairs on my cars. I wanted to get back on my feet (proverbially) and get moving...but the first couple days were very hard

I got banded last friday (6.3) and I'm still in recovery~

I feel real great today (post-op day 4) and I hope to take my dog to the dog park and see if I can do some yardwork today.

Still, I'll need to pace myself and make sure to be hydrated.

No matter how resilient you are....remember that you're still going to be pumping on ~300 Cal per day....

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
