Hi everyone,

Is anyone out there struggling to maintain their weight loss? i was 86.5 kilos when I had my surgery in Feb 2008. I had reached 92 kilos prior to that. In 6 months I got down to 63 kilos and loved it. It was so easy as I never get hungry. However, I now am fighting "head hunger"more than ever before and am up to 78 Kilos which is very scary for me. I have had top ups as I need them and think I am about right. I am very restricted in ths first part of the day and once I start eating I find by night time I can eat quite a lot. I am starting to eat wrong foods and getting anxious. I suppose there are no magic answers other han making wise choices etc. Anyone else struggling like this??

Hi Gaylene, you're not on your own in fact if you read through the site long enough there seems to be many in the same boat.

Sorry you're struggling, it is frustrating and saddening.

I hope you find some way to get the head hunger under control soon and find yourself losing again.

Good luck.

I think the band changes the longer you have it. It is easier to eat foods that in the beginning were an issue. Also once you have been banded for a while you do not have the excitement and the motivation that you had initially.

You have said it is head hunger and this is probably true. You need to work out why you eat and what you can do instead. Is it because you are bored, stressed, avoiding something etc. Can you fix it by taking up a hobby, going for a walk, painting your nails etc. It may be that you need help from a professional to find out why you want to eat when you are not hungry and how to handle it.

Also have healthy Snacks at hand for when the munchies strike. A small handful of nuts, a piece of fruit, homemade veggie Soup etc will help to satisfy the urge but without causing the damage that biscuits, chocolate, crisps etc will.

It is easy to eat when you are not hungry, I can vouch for that as it seems to be something I have been doing a lot of lately. Nothing like being forced to stay at home, take it easy and not exercise to make you want to keep running to the fridge.

Old "Sport Eating" habits die hard. You know what to do. And like most of the rest of the Bandster world, you know what not to do. Wish it were easier for me too. Good luck and cheers in your journey. Every day requires discipline and dedication to our goal. And nothing tastes better than success.

Hi Everyone,

I heard something recently on "The BIggest Loser" that made me say SHA ZAM!! One of the contestants said she didn't think she deserved it. I tell myself all the time, YOU DESERVE THIS!!! It is not easy, you will struggle but you have to want it....and you have to tell yourself that you deserve it.

I am now in maintain mode and finding it hard not to slip back into those old habits. I have trouble eating throughout the day, but once the evening hits I can eat whatever I want. And it seems like I make up for the day and then some because Im starving.

Its4me...funny you should say that. There are times when I dont feel like I do deserve it. And I have stopped talking to my grandma about my weight loss because the only thing she ever tells me is how she wishes my mom could lose weight because she deserves it. And my thought is what I dont?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
