How do I know if am too tight?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I know you'll probably say see your doc, but here in my country it's like the surgeon's work is done after getting that band on.... So please i need to be 100% sure that i'm tight before going to his clinic to get an unfill.... So please all the ideas, personal experinces... Anything would be helpful....

Thanx :)

i have only felt really tight once since my surgery on 5/16/11. for me, it felt like i had a knot in my throat that would not go away. i had no desire to eat because it did not feel like anything would go in. all i did was sip Water. a friend told me to drink something hot and that helped to loosen the band back up to where i was able to eat. from what i know, too tight would mean that you cannot keep anything down...food or Fluid. i wish you luck!!!!

I think the most common sign is throwing up and getting stuck a lot. Definitely see your doctor right away if you're experiencing this.

Not only can vomiting be a sign of being to tight but also just not being able to eat normal "bandster" sized meals. My doctor says if you can't eat 3 oz of dense Protein (chicken, fish) + veggies that you are too tight.

Coughing (day or night).

Difficulty eating normal food (even soft foods like mashed potatoes, chunky applesauce, Pasta, etc.).

Feeling "stuck" after a couple of bites.

Relying on "slider" foods because they do down easily and stay down (popcorn, chips, ice cream, etc.).

Vomiting.

Sliming (salivating to excess).

Gaining weight (usually due to eating sliders).

In the RED ZONE which is where you never want to be. You can't even swallow spit. If that happens you will be on your way back to your Surgeon for sure.

So after he fills you, make sure to drink a nice size glass of Water. They want to see it go down to, this way they know that your not to tight.

Thank you all for your replies, It all was helpful... ESPCIALLY Acadia's answer, Icouldn't believe my eyes when I read coughing, I was couphing for no reason and it never occured to me that it could be the band, and all the other symptoms too.... Thanx soooo much, that just made 100% sure that i'm too tight before going to see my mean surgeon :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
