Ready to leave in the morning

Recommended Posts

Well, I'm just finishing up my packing, and my sister and I leave for Sioux Falls Monday morning. Have to attend a class at 1 p.m. and then see the surgeon at 3:30. Surgery is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Tuesday. I'm nervous, but I'm also REALLY excited...this is what I've wanted and now it's time. Hopefully everything will go well and I'll be back home on Wed. afternoon. I'm glad my sister is going along...she has her first appointment with the same surgeon Tues. afternoon, so she'll be just a little behind me on the journey. I think it will be a real help to both of us to have each other for support. I keep encouraging her to join here...you all have been so encouraging and helpful.

Emily

Happy for you1 So glad you have a sister who will be there. It is nice to know somebody cares enough to come take care of you. I was banded Jan 19, 2006 and am doing very well. Just went to the store to get Soup and pudding. I am so happy to say I have dropped 17 lbs as this morning. For your info. I live in Minot, ND and was banded in Bismarck by Dr. Schmidt. Good luck!!!!

Yeah!! Lets gietter done! 17 lbs and counting! Yessssss

Buddies make the job easier. I have sooo enjoyed conversing with everyone. I have to go to work tomorrow and I feel bad cause I won't have all the time I have had in the last few days. I also have so enjoyed staying in my home and just doing whatever I pleased and not feeling like I had to do a million tasks. You all know how that feels. I told my husband that this little cocoon I have built where the food is safe and the environment is friendly. It will be hard to go out and face the challenges of real life. He is a recovering alcoholic and he said he understood my point so completely. Home is haven. I can and will succeed!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
