Okay, my hubby has a lot of friends and he belongs to a club. The club always seems to have something going on. When I was on my liquid diet they had a big event with music/outdoors/food/drinks I told my hubby I did want to go since I was on liquids. I told him to go if he wanted.

Then last week his friend had a BBQ- I went even though I couldn't eat or drink. So this weekend there's a pig roast -really-WTH? I am starting to get a little mad. My hubby asks when I'll be on regular food-I said not for 2 more weeks. So my hubby asks me if I want to go. I said "I am not going and I don't feel supported because you know I can't eat or drink" He was fine with me not going but he went (supposely to talk to a guy about work we need on our kitchen." He said he wouldn't be long-I think he sensed that I wasn't thrilled. Before he left he asked me if I wanted to go o the movies later -he knows I want to see Bridemaids.

So I guess my real concern is that so much of our weekends revolve around eating out and food/drink events that this is going to be a really big change. I wish he didn't feel a need to go to every event-because I feel left behind. At the same time I do realize this is my burden to bear-not necessarily his. I guess it's worse now that I am in Bandster Hell and could eat anything. Just needing to vent-sorry!

First off- go see Bridesmaids for sure, it is hilarious! Sounds like you need to talk to your husband about how you feel. I understand you not wanting to go to the outings while on liquids, just too tempting. I think the 2 of you need to figure out how to spend time together on the weekends without it revolving around food. That being said, I think you have to do your part in the compromise. IMHO you shouldn't expect him to miss the gatherings, or even to always go by himself. Maybe you could go to something once a month (once your off liquids), and he goes once a month by himself. The other 2 weekends of the month you can do something unrelated to food. When you do go to a party, why don't you bring something you can eat, then at least you know you'll have something. Just a compromise off the top of my head, hope it helps. Congrats on your surgery!

Okay, he only stayed 1 hour -but I know he would have loved to stay longer. You are right-sometimes I'll have to bite the bullet and go with him...but it's hard right at this point. I know he's only seeing Bridesmaids tonight because I want to see it so I guess I can compromise too. Although I did compromise last weekend by going to the BBQ. It's going to be a lonnnng summer!

I have gotten to the point where I can go to things that revolve around food and do fine. I eat, get full, it feels the same as before (almost). Anyway, I don't miss eating more because I'm full/satisfied. We have a place at the lake so there is always food an drink every weekend. you just learn to adapt, it's not so bad. Very tough when you are just starting out I know, Good Luck to you!

Yes the point of the band is to help you feel satisfied on smaller amounts. Therefore there is no reason why you should need to stop going to these events. Eat a small portion of healthy food and then spend the rest of the time chatting to and enjoying the company of your friends. You don't need to go into hibernation and stop living just because you have a band.

If you are worried about the food that will be on offer then take a dish that you know you can eat. Once you are past the liquid/mushy stage it should become a lot easier.

Thanks! those are words I really needed to here. I will just have to start eating like a skinny person does! You are both right too that eating is not something that goes on all night so I can just make a plate and that's that. It's just really difficult now without a fill yet. Thanks!!

I had my surgery 9 days after my youngest graduated from high school. Bandster Hell didn't stop me from throwing a great big graduation party/pig roast in his honor! No, I could not eat but it didn't bother me in the least. I had fun just socializing with our friends and family. I just had a yogurt or something and a couple cocktails! Can't let the good times pass you by because of food!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
