Freaking out about surgery

Recommended Posts

I've been waiting years to be able to get this surgery and I finally got the call yesterday that it was approved! I couldn't believe it. I have my pre-op at 11am today and I'm freaking out. My dr is Dr Julius Gee. I've been researching him online and don't find anything on him. I've read that 1800 get thin drs have had their license revoked or suspended and that some of their patients have died. I've also heard of them scamming the insurance companies with outrageous bills and that part is true. They've charged over $79,000 to mine for only pre op things. I've seen a final bill for the surgery and it's over $149,000 when it should only be between 20-25k. I'm having mixed feelings about this place, but now it's finally approved and idk what to do. I need this surgery :o/

Has anyone had experiences either with 1800 get thin or this dr?

Any comments are welcome!

Wow Cathy... That's a lot of money... for pre-op and for the band. I can only speak for myself but if my doctor were doing that I would RUN. Have you researched the surgeon? I would not be comfortable with a surgeon operating on me who allows scamming to go on. If you have already been through the process of being approved than just go find a legit medical center, you'll be approved in not time! But, I can only speak to what I would do. Best of luck!

Hey Ms Bandit. I meet with the dr today in a few hours. If I don't get a good vibe I will go somewhere else. I did research dr Gee but couldn't find either good or bad things about him any where.

I had read about the two brother doctors. Weightloss centers says that when they found out about top surgeons they stopped all affiliation with them. I've searched Dr Gee for hours and I couldn't find anything about him anywhere. I met with him yesterday and he did calm my nerves. He answered all my questions.

i had the surgery done by dr. gee and everything went well, but after you get the surgery though dont expect him to call about a next appt, you have to stay on top of it when it comes to fill appts.

You can get approved by someone else.....don't take a chance. Those charges are ridiculous. I was self pay and it only cost $10,000 thru a center of excellence. I live in Delaware on the East Coast. I'm a nurse and I can tell you that far more complex surgeries don't cost anywhere near that much. Think cardiac bypass? Your safety is the most important thing, even if you have to wait a few months.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
