onamshin 0 Posted June 3, 2011 i was banded 4/13/11 so I am 7 weeks out. No fill. A couple of days ago I took Psyllium Husk (Fiber supplement) and didnt think anything of it. Then something said research that and see if it is ok to take the Fiber supplement. See the issue with this one is it swells in the abdomen after you drink it in Water and it helps to keep you regular. I feel like an idiot after I took a moment to process what i had done. Yes I called my Doc I have an appointment for Tuesday. You know what I'm thinking, (the worst). I need you guys to tell me I did not ruin my band and to be more careful in the future. When will I get use to this and understand what I should and shouldn't do? I need a list of don'ts and I don't know why there isn't one that would list the absolute dont's. Thanks Guys
stateofzen 46 Posted June 3, 2011 You didn't hurt your band, I'm sure. Try not to be so hard on yourself. We all make mistakes-- it's what follows a mistake that makes the difference. Just don't beat yourself up and lesson learned for next time.
asksdf 5 Posted June 4, 2011 I've taken Fiber supplements every day for the last four months or so, and my band is working good as ever. I actually just went for a checkup with the doc yesterday and I noted down that I had been taking them, he didn't say there was any problem.
CheckYes 46 Posted June 4, 2011 Don't worry. Doesn't sound like you are feeling any pain or that you are experience any negative effects from the supplement. If you need a Fiber supplement - my doctor recommends Benefiber. It dissolves in liquid and is tasteless, odorless and gritless. I put a tablespoonfull in my coffee every morning. Ask your doctor to see if he/she recommends the same.
mauraclegg 29 Posted June 4, 2011 I take fiber everyday or I have problems. I recently switched to the flavorless Benefiber (target brand though) that u can put in anything. It is a saving grace for my gastrointestinal tract
options123 3 Posted June 4, 2011 I have benefiber. This is about psyllium husk powder which is a fber supplement when mixed in Water after consumption it swells. Benefiber doesn't do that. You can mix benefiber and sit it down and two hours later is is barely visible. Psyllium husk would be so thick and swollen you would not be able to consume it. So when you mix psyllium husk you have to drink it immediately but after you drink it, it swells in the stomach and cleanses the colon. I hope this helps. Big difference between benefiber and psyllium husk powder.
