Can a stretched pouch shrink back?

Recommended Posts

Hello.

On occasions I have overeaten way more than I should.

I have read the warnings about stretching the stomach pouch by doing so.

Will the pouch shrink back to a smaller size over time if I keep my meals to the required amount?

Has this happened to you?

Thanks.

My reading said to think of it as a ballon that has been stretched over and over-it never really goes back to normal-But we have fills to help!

If the stomach stretches and doesnt go back to a smaller size when you eat less, then whats the point of the doctor doing a complete unfill when they find your stomach is stretched too much?

When you find out you have a stretched stomach they don't say oh lets give you a bigger fill, they take your fill out. Therefore I think a while on liquids, smaller portions and will power your stomach would get a little smaller.

I am always paranoid of over eating so for a day after I have a meal where I over eat I really reduce my portions and then go back to my 1/2cup max per meal.

Sometimes we screw up no big deal, accept it, remember it and continue on with your journey.

Hello and thanks for the reply.

I hope you aren't right... doesn't seem much point in having a fill if the pouch is stretched anyway. Besides, I get extreme reflux and night choking if band is tightened, SO frustrating!

Hi. :)

Is that what they do? Unfill you if the stomach is stretched? Why?

I hope that you are right and that a period of 'doing the right thing' will shrink the pouch.

Now it's just a matter of getting back on the bandwagon!

Thanks.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
