25 yo Paraplegic being banded June 3rd

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! I am a T10-T12 Paraplegic and am thinking of weight loss surgery, specifically the band. I have heard that they can slip, and was wondering if anyone has had this happen and why it happens. Also, is it okay to exercise with the band. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I had WLS because of one reason.....I could not control my eating...I ate too much and could not stop on my own....

Lap band surgery has changed that for me entirely.....

However, just because my food intake has been brought under control, I still had to exercise, perhaps more than ever, to burn off all that excess fat I was storing away all those years...

I am around SCI's, Head Trauma, CP, every disability imaginable....it's what I do for a living...although 90% pediatrics, there is still no excuse for not exercising.....

You know what I mean....

Hi and welcome! :)

People experience slips for different reasons sometimes, it isn't known why a band slips, a patient can be compliant and it just happens. Other times it can be because someone is living with a too tight band, experiencing a lot of Productive Burping and regurgitating and the force of all of that can, in time cause a slip. Others, if a person, for whatever reason throws up a lot... That can cause a band to slip.

A slip doesn't always result in loss of the band. A revision surgery can, in some cases set the band back in it's proper place and after a period of recovery and healing, the patient can get back on with their bandster life. In other cases, the band can't be set back in place and has to be removed or the patient chooses to have it removed and either revises to a different WLS or none, at all.

Slipping is a possibility, but it isn't a given. It is a risk that you need to consider as you do your research and make your decision. :)

Yes! It is absolutely okay to exercise with the band! You can do anything with the band that you can do without it. :D

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
