Hello All I had my lapband surgery on March 1st of 2010 and have had a loss of almost 120 pounds. I wouldn't say that I have had Hair loss but I have had major breakage. I was reading something online about hair Essentials. Has anyone heard of this. They are with the BBB. Please let me know I am trying anything. Thank you.

Thank you.

I had my band placed last year on Oct. 28th, 2010. I have lost 56 lbs since surgery. I started experienceing some hair issues, loss and breakage about 45 days ago. I take Biotin 6000mcg per day and have been for the past 3 weeks. My hair and nails are looking much better. I am taking bebeautiful a GNC chewable product. I did a lot of research before choosing a product and most of the reasearch says in order for Biotin to be effective for rapid weight loss you need to take at least 6000mcgs per day. These chewable squares are 3 mg each or 300mcgs so I take two daily, along with 1000 mg of CA and my Multivitamins. I know they say that lap bands may not need as much Vitamins as Gastric Bypass and Sleeve patients but my experience has been that if we do not get all our protien in on a daily basis we have the same issues as other rapid weightloss surgeries. Hope this helps you, Good Luck. and great job on your weight loss to date.

I experienced some Hair loss about 6 months post op. I went to the dermatologist. He said your body goes into a kind of shock from rapid weight loss. Much to my relief, he said I wouldn't go bald. I didn't do Biotin or anything. The hairloss stopped in 3-4 months. I was luck to start out with a think head of hair. Try not to worry about it, but I know it's concerning to see that hair fall out.

I am no expert as I am only a little over a week post op but the staff in my doctors office - all who have bands told me to go to use Biotin 1000mg daily. I have not started it yet but they say it can be purchased anywhere Vitamins are sold. I asked my hairdresser and she agreed it was an excellent product for strengthening hair and nails.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
