Finding it hard to get enough calories

Recommended Posts

Since my fill last week, its been hard to get my calories in. its 6pm and I am only at 600 for the day. I dont think I can eat 600 for dinner.

Anyone else having this problem. Im scheduled for another fill next week. Every two weeks for the next 9 weeks. Dont think I need to go next week.

You don't have to get a fill-- it absolutely does not sound like you need one, so cancel or go in to check in and firmly say no :)

Shoot for 800 calories, at least. Maybe you can't make 1200, but 800-1000 is doable I would think.

I was having a very similar problem for 3 weeks after my first fill. I couldn't eat without a struggle for most of my meals, barely getting 700 or 800 calories. I had pain swallowing, and vomited with most meals. My weight was stagnant. I got a unfil of one cc, and I feel much better, enjoy my food and am loosing weight again. I recomend "fitness pal" online, to track calories and nutrients. It is free and you can even use it on a I phone. I sure hope you have better luck soon! Kelley

1. I wouldn't get a fill. 2. Eat foods higher in fat like nuts, avocado, etc. They're much more calorie dense.

I am feeling pretty good about eating the foods. They seem to go down fairly good (except for one stuck on Monday morning) totally my fault though. Dont Eat and Drive :o I am just not hungery. This is the run down of my eating day today:

7:30 Atkins Protein drink

11:15 3 oz chicken and about 2 oz veggies

4:00 Mcdonalds fruit and yogurt parfait (no granola)

6:15 3 oz chicken and about 2 oz veggies and 1/2 piece of toast

8:00 1 bar of Honey oats granola bar

I am doing my fitness pal on my phone to track. It says that is 762 for the day. uggg

maybe I will have another Protein shake. I am at 75 carbs for the day, so I am in range for that. I am eating 5 times a day. I ate the granola bar just to get some more calories in. There are times when I have to make myself eat too. I dont think I will go in for my fill. I think I am good.

My NUT has told me that if I get to the end of the day and need more calories to drink a Protein shake. I don't do it often but there are some days I do need to do it to get in my calories.

As far as fills go, nothing says you have to get a fill at every appointment. You should still go so they can weigh you and track your progress but if you are losing well and don't have any issues with portion size or getting hungry between meals then there is no reason to get a fill. For the first 4 months after surgery, I had a monthly appointment to be weighed and get a fill but I only got 1 fill during that time because most months I didn't need one. Now, I go in every 2 months for the same reason...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
