bayareanan 24 Posted June 1, 2011 I just got my first lab results since I was banded. I am low in Vit B1. Anyone else have this problem?
Acadia 20 Posted June 1, 2011 It's normal for doctors to require you to take B1 supplements for 90-180 days after surgery. However, it's very rare to have a thiamine deficiency but it can be very serious. Get started on B1 capsules daily. Increase your grain consumption (whole), decrease alcohol and sugar consumption. Lap Band Gal 41 Posted June 3, 2011 I had a low B1 level at my 1 year labs. It was less than 2. After 3 months of sublingual B1 supplement, it is back to normal at 16. I have heard that this defficiency is common for those doing low carb (no grains, etc). I was pretty strict with my low carb intake for the first year after surgery. Either way, get some supplements and it should return to normal.
cunner 21 Posted June 4, 2011 I have low B1. I take a B1 supplement daily. I will be tested again later this month to see if the 6 months of supplements have taken care of it.
