Atsirc 10 Posted May 31, 2011 My surgery is quickly approaching (June 20th) and I'm so excited! My problem is that Doctors have always made me incredible anxious. I have not stayed a night in the hospital since I was born and have never had a reason to go to the ER. I don't know why not knowing what to expect at the hospital is making me feel this way. Honestly, I'm more anxious about the awake part of the hospital stay than the actual surgery! My surgeon requires an overnight stay to monitor you. What were your hospital stays like? Does/ did anybody else have anxiety about the hospital?
CheckYes 46 Posted May 31, 2011 Hi, I didn't have to stay overnight but I wanted to respond to you just to let you know that it is totally normal to be anxious about surgery and the hospital. I have had surgery before and so I didn't feel overly nervous but I was totally teary before my procedure. I warned my doctor about it and she was completely understanding and everyone there was so kind and reassuring to me. They expect you to have some nervous about not only being in the hospital but the procedure and after care. Also - if you are worried that your anxiety is going to get the best of you - let you doctor know - they might give you a little "cocktail" in your IV to help with that. It's going to be ok. I really feel like you should just let your surgeon know that you are anxious. You'll do great!
