You have just had surgery so a lot of these things are fairly normal at this stage.

By the other end do you mean you fart a lot, have the runs or what? A lot of people have the runs post surgery as liquid in tends to result in liquid out. It will normally settle once you start eating proper food. As to gas most bandsters find that they do burp and/or fart a lot. That seems to be one of the unfortunate side effects.

The only urinating twice a day sounds like a problem. You could be dehydrated. What colour is it ? Pale urine is good , dark indicates dehydration. Make sure that you are getting sufficient fluids.

might want to get sthe gasX strips - they helped me a lot post surgery....your body will be adjusting to your new diet so you might see some changes....be sure to be drinking LOTS of Water...it is hard as you won't necessarily feel really thirsty, but it is very important. (You will find later that if you are dehydrated it affects how your band feels - mine feels really tight when I am) Depending on if you are lactose intolerant the shakes can bother you, too....

hang in there, this too shall pass!

Hi!

Gas pains are normal and believe it or not, desired! They pump you full of gas to open up the abdomen area, so they can see what they are doing during the laproscopic surgery. The only way the pain will subside is IF you pass gas!

I am on day 5 post surgery! I still have pain, mostly in my left shoulder. Thank god my doctor gave me vicodin to ease the pain (it also helps me if I lay down with a hot pad to the painful area). If your doc did not prescribe liquid pain meds for you, call them immediately and ask for it. Yesterday, I opted to change from vicodin to liquid tylinol, because my pain was subsiding, and the vicodin was a contributing factor to my Constipation.< /p>

Are you having PAIN "from the other end" or gas? If it's vaginal pain affiliated with not urinating much, I would definitely call the doc with that question as well.

My doc wants me to drink 48-64 oz. of Water a day, and drink 60-80 grams of Protein a day. That adds up to a lot of liquid, and you would think, a lot of urinating. But in thinking about it, I have been urinating about 3 or 4 times a day.

Good luck to you. Hope you post again saying all is getting better and better for you.

I have been using the gas x,it does nothing,i dont have gas pains below, just alot of gas.I guess i was dehydrated,my urine is very dark,i will be drinking more fluids today. My Dr. gave my percocet for the pain, which i mainly take at night so i can lay down without the pain.I still have not moved my bowels, since last thur, the day before surgery, which is probably normal.I have been icing down the port area, which is still sore.

Don't worry about a BM yet-I didn't get one until 4 days post surgery.

Ice is good for your sore tummy!

Drink, drink, drink!! Water should be with you at ALL times. If you are not a big Water drinker try putting some Crystal LIght into it. The shakes you are drinking might not agree with you and give you gas. Can you tolerate milk? If not then maybe you need to switch it up.

Hope you feel better!!!

I'd take the pain meds every four hours, and lay down with a heating pad to the sore areas when you can. Yes, it is "only" laproscopic surgery, but they still cut and stitch and move your organs around and blow you up with gas! And let us not forget the effects of the anethesia! And if you had hiatal hernia repair as well, that is additional prodding and stitching!

I understand gas x doesn't work for our kind of gas, cause it is supposed to help intestinal gas...we have outside-the-organs gas! Yes, no BMs for 4 or 5 days is normal. I am back to normal after I went off the vicodin (which contributes to constipation). But first things first. I wouldn't go off your percocet until your pain is sufficiently less.

Yeah for more fluids!! I am sipping something all day long. I have a chart my sister made up for me to enter all the liquid and Protein I am drinking all day long, with a place for running totals. Amazing when you see it in writing. Maybe that will help you, if you keep a daily log of intake.

Super good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
