1 Week Pre-op and haven't lost any weight! HELP!

Recommended Posts

Surgery is set for 6-7 and I'm on the 2 week pre op diet. 3 shakes a day and 2 small meals. I have been sticking to it but after finally getting on the scale, I haven't lost any weight! Is this normal? Are they going to think I haven't been dieting?

UGHHHH!

Thanks in advance!

Did your doctor give you specific instructions on what a "small" meal is? Some doctors call for 3 shakes only so it's possible you are consuming more calories than the doctor expected. I would consider a small meal to be 3 oz plain chicken breast no sauce, 1 cup plain veggies no butter or sauce; which would be about 200 calories. My Protein Shakes were 90 cal fat free milk and 110 cal. Protein Powder. So two small meals 400 and 3 Protein shakes 200 X 3 =600 total 1,000 cal. What are your calories per day? Also all protein shakes are not created equal some have high calorie counts.

I'm going by their diet and drinking either powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Shakes or Atkins shakes (both ok'd by nutritionist). I'm eating 1 Lean Cuisine or Smartone which must have under 300 calories and at lest 15 g of protein and eating dinner with my family making my own meals separate from theirs which includes 3oz. of lean protein and non starchy veggies. I haven't cheated at all except for maybe going a little over the 3oz. of lean protein. Being honest here but still, I think I'm doing pretty good.

Hoping something is wrong with my home scale! I'm going to email my nutritionist and let her know whats going on. I don't want to show up and then them say they aren't going to go through with the surgery b/c I haven't lost any weight.

Thanks for replying!

Could be a sodium issue? Frozen meals are loaded with sodium. Try upping your Water intake.

Don't worry about it!!! I didn't lose hardly anything pre op --- and post op fir the first 6 weeks when I was in the healing phase I think I gained a lb or two.....this is NOT the time to focus on weight loss...just be sure to be getting in what your doctor advises along with plenty of water.....and remember that this is the hardest part of the journey, the pre op and then the first 6 week post op phase....which, I repeat, is NOT for weight loss! Some folks drop lots during that time, others nothing....it doesn't mean anything,.....your body will go thru shock and have to adjust to your new lifestyle....just be patient and you will do fine! :)

Thanks so much Kim for letting me know I'm not alone. I called the doctor's office today and they said as long as you've been doing your diet, they will continue with the operation if you haven't lost any weight. I think that means, some people don't lose on the pre op diet!

Only 6 days till my big day!

Thanks again!

:P

I am not yet banded (June 20 can't come quick enough!!) but I heard conflicting info from my doctor's office regarding the pre-op......the patient advocate told me if I didn't lose 10+ pounds before surgery, they wouldn't operate, but then at the pre-op appointment with the surgeon, I questioned him as to how much he wanted me to lose and his response was "no set amount, but the more I lose before surgery, the better my chances to lose more afterwards." He did NOT say he would cancel the operation if I didn't lose, which contradicted what the patient rep. said..... SO, I will do my best on the pre-op diet anyway just in case!!!!!

I think that there are people that don't lose on the pre-op and still get the surgery.

But I agree about the frozen meals...they have lots of sodium, so try adding more Water. My doctor's office recommend I have 2 shakes and 1 small meal, so maybe drop down to 2 shakes daily instead of 3 to see if that boosts your loss.

GOOD LUCK!!!

I love my 3 shakes a day! I counted it up and I think it ended up being around 1200 calories a day. Less just sounds crazy and unhealthy to me.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
