feeling ill, help needed

Recommended Posts

I had lap band on May 26th and immediately felt great. Well day 4 and I am nauseous and running to the bathroom every 10-15 minutes. I am still on a liquid diet and feel like there is nothing I can do. I am more than a little panicked. I left a message for the doctor by with the holiday I am not getting any response. I could use any advice I can get. I have read on some forums that diarria is very common with Lap band and I am starting to wonder if I have made the right decision. Help.

At the moment it is because you are only consuming liquids. Once you get onto a normal diet things should settle down. Plus if you are on Protein shakes you may have some form of lactose intolerance or intolerance to one of the other ingredients. They don't agree with everyone. I would look at what I was eating/drinking and if you have introduced anything new that you are not used to e.g shakes then cut them out.

The other possibilty is that you may have picked up some kind of bug. So concentrate on what you would do normally with gastro. Stick to Clear Liquids - no dairy products and concentrate on keeping hydrated. If it doesn't stop you may need to go back to emergency.

Hang on my dear, i felt like my whole world had caved in on Day 4. Believe me it will get better. You made the right choice and you will find that out pretty soon, Best of luck.

Thank you so much for the words of encourgement. I was terrified and just needed to know that it would pass. It helps to talk to people who have been there.

Debbie!

Gurl u are not alone. I was banded on 5/23 and went through it myself had the runs up till yesterday due to all Clear Liquids. I recently upgraded my Soup to cream of potatoe and voila all gone. I just mushed the potatoes up really well and i guess it's sticking to me well. Quelled the diarrhea. Hang in there. This will all be worth it in the end. Believe it.

I was banded on 5/24. Up until yesterday I was hating myself for doing this! Today is day 7 and I feel awesome. I'm almost embarrassed because of the pity party I gave myself. It gets better. Hang in there!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
