Yuck, had my first slim experience today

Recommended Posts

Omg, that is awful. I have gotten stuck before, or so I thought, until this morning. I was driving back from texas this morning and wanted to get something quick that didnt have alot of calories, so I got a sausage burrito from mcdonalds. Figured I eat half of it. Took a small bite, went down fine. Took the next and tnat was it. Thought I would die, had to pull over and finally had to force myself to bring it up. Yuck. Never want to do that again. Should of know better than to have that anyway, and to do it while driving was not the smartest move. Ended up with just a Protein Drink for the rest of the drive.

wanted to get something quick that didnt have alot of calories,

Unfortunately this is a recipe for disaster. The wanting something quick often ends up causing problems. Plus the fact you said you had to pull over means you were eating and driving so you obviously weren't concentrating on small bites, chewing well, and eating slowly. Trying to save that extra 5 minutes often doesn't work as you found out. If you have to get fast food at least stop and eat it, don't try eating and driving at the same time. There is nothing worse than being stuck or sliming when in the car and you have nowhere to throw up.

Sorry that you had such a horrible experience.

When I am not paying attention when I am eating is always when I get stuck. It sucks- but it is a learning experience

You poor thing! How scary for you! Why do we sometimes have to learn the hard way?! Glad you are OK. Good luck on both journies!

Some bandsters keep ziplock baggies in their cars for such occasions. I made a no eating while driving rule years ago. It's really horrible. I hate seeing people eat while driving--just ugh! Ok, pet-peeve complaint over.

But, for us, it is really a recipe for disaster.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
